As a Medieval romance, Her Rogue Knight, also contains elements of legend, specifically the legends of Morgan le Fey and Avalon and those of King Arthur, or at least the powerful scabbard that sheathed his sword. 

This was probably the most fun part of writing this book. I love this legend, and I loved twisting it even more, making it unique to the story and to Sir William and Gemma's quest.

Gemma was born with the mark of the Fey, the twin serpents of Avalon, a symbol of magic and of protection. As Sir William and Gemma get closer to rescuing Alys, her birthmark begins to change in form, growing in size and, although she does not know it yet, in power. 

In this scene, Gemma, who is half Fey but no longer believes in magic, wakes from a dream to find evidence that the magic is very real indeed and that she, as a daughter of Avalon, shall have its protection.
