Welcome back to Saturday Spanking! Today I wanted to share a more tender, more sad moment from Given to the Savage. I was telling my friend that I tell my daughter a PG version of this story and whenever I tell her this part, she starts to get weepy and tells me to go right to the end, to the happy part. It's sweet but sometimes, I also like to just experience the sadness too.
In this scene, Silas is just taking Rowan away from the colony and to his settlement to breed her. She's just had her humiliating medical exam and has been told she cannot even say goodbye to her friends and sisters, the other breeders. Here it is...
* * * *
“Up,” Silas repeated, this time
taking hold of her and lifting her to sit on top of the largest sack on the wagon.
She did not understand this man.
One moment he was almost kind to her, but the next, just as cold as the rest of
them.
No one spoke as the gates were opened and Silas took up the wagon and
pulled. Rowan hugged her cape tight over her shoulders and looked up to meet
the shadowy faces of the breeders who watched from behind their windows.
One
waved a hand as a tear slid down her cheek. It was her friend, Lis. Rowan
raised her hand to the girl who would come of age in two months’ time. She
wondered what would happen to Lis and wiped at her own eyes as the heavy gates
of the colony closed behind her.
* * * *
In the aftermath of a plague which brought civilization to its knees and left most of the world’s female population sterile, breeders—the few women who remain fertile—have become a precious commodity. Breeders live in relative comfort, but upon reaching adulthood they are tasked with bearing one child after another to carry on the species. Frequent medical assessments keep the breeders healthy and harsh punishments keep them in line.
As a breeder who has just come of age, Rowan knows she will soon be little more than a slave, but when she dares to resist her fate the penalty is severe. After a shameful, public chastisement and a thorough, humiliating examination to determine her suitability for child-bearing, Rowan is given to a savage from outside the community—a huge brute of a man named Silas—to be bred.
Against all expectations, Rowan finds herself drawn to her new captor. Brave, ruggedly handsome, and even kind at times, Silas is everything the men who enslaved her were not. When the time comes for him to breed her, despite the circumstances something deep inside her begs for him to take her long and hard. But while she soon finds herself longing to be his forever, Rowan knows that eventually those who gave her to him will try to take her back. When that day comes will Silas fight to keep her at his side even if it means risking everything he loves?
Publisher’s Note: Given to the Savage is an erotic novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes, extensive medical play, anal play, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.
*My in-laws are celebrating their 50th year wedding anniversary this weekend and I will be with family for most of it and may not be able to visit bloggers this weekend.

Definitely a sad moment, but we know the men who gave Rowan to Silas did it on purpose to punish her. I really felt for Lis since her future was so unknown. Would she be subject to the same cruelty Rowan was? Wonderful book, Natasha, and great snippet.
There was lot of sadness and heartache in the book, but that's what makes for a compelling story.
I tend to look for escapism in my fiction, but this sadness helps us understand Rowan's connection with the others and the total lack of power these women have. Makes me think that we are very lucky to be women in this time and place when women have more freedom and control!
Awww....I feel so bad for Rowan! Hopefully Silas starts being nicer to her!
This is the first snippet I've read from this book and it breaks my heart. I do agree with Cara this will definitely be a compelling read.
I love Rowan, she maintains her pride and dignity under horrible conditions. Silas sounds scary but then he had to be better than the captain and the commander.
I really enjoyed this book - it was intense and kept me on the edge of the seat through its entirety.
awww- I love that you tell your daughter a PG version :) and this is such a sweet snippet
Poor Rowen, but Silas sounds like a good guy. She's in good hands.
Very cool, Natasha, that is one hell of an evocative scene.
That really got to me. You captured an overwhelming sadness. Well done!
Yes, very sad scene!!
Wow, dramatic stuff there, Natasha. Truly touching.
Loved this book. Compelling, heavy stuff, sad in places, like this scene, but with the softer centre. Really pushing the boundaries (as Amazon unhelpfully seemed to point out.) So glad it got back out there.
Wow Natasha, very poignant, touching scene.
Hugs
