Irresistible Attractions New Rod and Cane Society Book by Cara Bristol #spanking

Cara Bristol is here today with her brand new addition to the Rod and Cane Society books, Irresistible Attractions! Rod and Cane are some of the best domestic discipline romances and as soon as Cara releases one, I eat it up! This one is no exception! Now I'm off to read...here's Cara!
In D/s and DD spanking romances, the hero sets rules for the heroine to follow. Failure to obey the rules results in punishment. I’d like to talk about rules in general for a moment.
Do you consider yourself to be a rule follower or a rule breaker? Is it more important to obey the letter or the spirit of the law?
Rules have positive benefits:

They create order out of chaos.
They promote equality by applying the same guidelines to everyone.
They make decisions easier. Don’t know what to do? Follow the rules.
But rules presume a specific set of circumstances, and when variables in the situation occur, rules can have the opposite effect than was intended.
For instance, stealing is wrong. Agree?
If someone broke into your house and stole your television, robbed you of your wallet at gunpoint, or conducted a scam that bilked hundreds out of their life savings, most people would deem those acts as criminal and expect the perpetrator to be brought to justice.
But what about a starving person who steals a loaf of bread? Is that theft as “wrong” as the previous examples? Should the thief be prosecuted? The rules would say yes.
Should rules still be followed if no one will be injured by not following them or if no one will know that the rules were broken at all? Imagine you’re driving across country. The posted speed limit is 65 miles per hour. It’s a straight road in good weather in broad daylight without another vehicle in sight. Do you follow the law and drive at 65? Or do you break the rules and drive a little faster?
Hannah Laurie, the heroine of Irresistible Attractions, is subject to a lot of rules in her job with a cleaning service. She considers herself to be a rule follower. She gets to work on time and does what she’s supposed to without supervision. When she has the opportunity to snoop through confidential documents to find out more about the Rod and Cane Society, about which she is very curious, she doesn’t even consider it.
But when she has a chance to try out the spanking equipment in Rod and Cane’s secret disciplinary chamber without anyone knowing, the temptation proves too strong to resist…
An excerpt from Irresistible Attractions
Vacuuming finished, she wound the cord around the cleats and pushed the machine into the hall, remembering how she’d gotten flustered and left it on the elevator. Jordan Bevy must have thought she was a ditz. Naturally she would make an ass of herself in front of the sexiest man she’d ever encountered. He made the guys at her college look like little kids.
Hannah halted in the doorway giving the room a final perusal. Spic and spank. Dust free. Paddles aligned in neat rows. Benches polished.
She eyed her favorite. Gorgeous cherry grain. Slick, smooth leather, the kind resistant to sweat stains, she suspected. In her fantasies, she knelt on that bench. Dare she try it out for real? Doing so violated the rules, but it wouldn’t disturb anything, and tonight might be her sole chance. Amberlyn would come back—or Tidy Titans would replace her. Either way, she’d never be alone in the mansion again.
Before she lost her nerve, she strode to the apparatus. Spastic butterflies beat frantic wings in her stomach as she knelt on the lower padded seat and relaxed her torso atop the upper one. She wiggled her wrists into the leather loops attached to the front legs. She peeked over her shoulder at her reflection and winced at her big booty, covered in unattractive gray wash-and-wear cotton poly. Not her best feature. Why couldn’t she have had a cute little butt to go along with her short stature?
Hannah freed her hands from the restraints and tugged up the skirt. Her lace thong left her backside near naked. Twisting her arm, she swatted one pasty cheek. Smack! Smack! Buns of steel? More like jiggles of Jell-O. She slapped herself several more times. It was hard to get a good swing. If only she had longer arms…
Or an implement.
Hannah scurried to the wall and snatched a short, slender cane then hopped back on the bench and hiked her dress over her waist again.
She tapped herself with the rod. More kiss than slap, it imparted only a slight sting. Tightening her grip, she swung a little harder. Ow! She wiggled her bottom. Nice tingle, but it disappeared too fast.
She was so bad. This was breaking every rule and some that hadn’t been written yet. Tidy Titans’ Rule No. 35: Do not try out clients’ spanking equipment.
Hannah giggled and landed another strike on her bottom. “You’re a naughty girl,” she chided aloud, imagining her fantasy man saying it. But, this time, he had Jordan Bevy’s face.
“Yes, you are a naughty girl,” boomed Jordan’s very real voice.

Irresistible Attractions blurb
College student Hannah Laurie works nights for a cleaning service. Among its clients is the Rod and Cane Society, an organization of domestic discipline practitioners. As she cleans the mansion headquarters, she becomes fascinated by the idea of being spanked. One evening, she surrenders to the impulse to try out the equipment in the secret disciplinary chamber.
Millionaire cybersecurity magnate Jordan Bevy, Rod and Cane’s disciplinary proctor, ensures the rules of the organization are followed to a T. Using the disciplinary chamber for personal pleasure is strictly forbidden. But when he catches the shy little cleaner girl trying out the equipment, what’s a fellow to do but bend the rules and give her a hand?
Everything seems like fun and games, until their relationship deepens and their respective worlds collide and clash. Can a lowly cleaner girl ever find acceptance in her boyfriend’s monied world?

Warrior: Breeder Book 3 by Cara Bristol

I don't know about you but I've been waiting for Warrior, the third book in Cara Bristol's Breeder series, for a long time. Actually, probably the day I finished Terran. This week is release week and Cara is sharing an excerpt here today.

Warrior (Breeder 3) blurb
A female fighting for freedom.  A male armed with determination. Can they save their people?

As a despotic Qalin marches through Parseon intent on conquering every province, Commander Marlix pledges his sister to another Alpha to protect her. Desperate to decide her own fate, Anika flees and finds refuge with the guerilla resistance movement against Qalin. Marlix’s aide Urazi hunts her down to bring her home to fulfill her duty. But when love blossoms between them, and provinces fall to Qalin, Anika and Urazi realize home has ceased to exist, and they are all that stand between the people of Parseon and the end of the world.

Warrior is the third and final book of the Breeder science fiction romance series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.

Warrior (Breeder 3) excerpt
“Hold steady. Grip the stock from below with your left hand. Do not get in the way of the bolt.” Grogan stepped so close, his hardened manhood prodded Anika’s left flank. She gritted her teeth, and considered dropping her trigger finger to reach into her boot for Tara’s knitting needle.

Yes. Hold steady now, Grogan.

“Line your target between the crosshairs.”

Target in sight. Anika closed her left eye and peered through the scope with her right at the life-size outline of a male sketched in soot on an unrolled parchment scroll tacked to a tree fifty meters away. Focused on the round smudge, center torso.

Grogan pressed his stiffened manhood into the crease of her buttocks. “Squeeze…the trigger.”

Anika superimposed her instructor’s likeness onto the faceless target and discharged the bolt. The string recoiled with a pop and released the arrow. With satisfying thunk, it embedded in the target. Lowering her weapon, Anika stepped out of range of the alpha and strode to examine the result.

Right through the heart.

“Fair. For a female,” Grogan judged.

She compared her results—dead center—with Grogan’s. He’d missed the middle completely, hitting outside the outline. Perhaps the weight of his erection had unbalanced his shot.

She marched to the starting line with Grogan dogging her heels, flinging advice as wild as his aim. She shot better than every male of the Resistance, but walked a precarious path, awakening each morn to wonder if this would be the day she would fall prey to her compatriots. To Grogan, who had singled her out for special training.

But joining the Guerilla Resistance against Qalin and Artom was preferable to facing what lay outside the camp. Anika shuddered.

After leaving Marlix’s abode, she’d roamed the countryside for a week before she’d straggled into the militia group attempting to defeat Qalin and Artom. Their secret weapon?
Breeders. No one would suspect a female of being an armed fighter.

But her instructor saw no reason to abandon the old use for females. Thus far she’d dodged him, but her luck and his patience could not last much longer.

“Many females can hit the target, but few have the strength you do to cock the bowstring. You are the best female shooter by far,” Grogan conceded, his praise falling short of recognizing her true ability.

“You have trained enough for one day. Let us retire to the camp,” Grogan said. “You may bring me the midday meal.” He peered at the sky. The star of Parseon hovered overhead, its heat barely reaching the atmosphere to edge the temperature over freezing. But the chill provided an excuse to layer on multiple articles of clothing. The inconvenience of removal had saved her on more than one occasion. Still, a clothing barrier offered scant protection. Some males—Grogan—viewed impediments as a challenge.

“I feel as though I need more practice.” She peered at him from beneath downcast lashes and slumped her shoulders in a pretense of self-effacement. “May I please try one more time?”

Usually the number of people milling around afforded opportunity to avoid or divert him.
But, today, the alphas had formed two teams and split up, one group hunting for small game, another sent on reconnaissance. The females had been ordered to forage for whatever they could find to replenish the dwindling food stores. Only she—by Grogan’s command—remained in camp.

She jabbed the crossbow nose onto the ground and stepped on the metal cocking stirrup.

“You have practiced enough for one day.” Temper edged his voice.

Anika pulled back the bowstring until it locked, extracted a bolt from the quiver, and slipped it into the flight groove. Cocked and loaded, the crossbow had to be fired, for it was too dangerous to leave a loaded weapon lying about. A bump or a jolt could discharge the projectile. She raised the crossbow to shoulder height, slipped her finger off the metal guard, and caressed the trigger.

“Did you hear what I said?” Grogan’s tone sharpened. “Look at me when I speak to you!”
She snapped a sharp pivot. Through the scope, the crosshairs formed a perfect X on his chest.

His eyes bulged in alarm, and he stumbled over his feet.

Even Grogan could not fail to hit a target at such close range.

“I heard what you said,” Anika replied before turning to the parchment target and pulling the trigger. Th-th-thunk! Her bolt landed next to the previous one. Dead center. Again. She lowered the weapon.

Grogan seized her arm in a bruising grip and yanked her around to face him. “Never point a loaded weapon at me! Do you understand?” He shook her.

Anika took stock of her instructor’s reddening complexion, the slight tremor of his body, the decreased bulge in his uniform pants. Satisfaction swelled, but she bowed her head. “I apologize, alpha. When you ordered me to look at you, I had no thought but to obey.”
Stars exploded under the impact of his fist.

Vulnerable Heroes: Guest Post by Cara Bristol

When Cara Bristol releases a book, I usually don't bother to read the blurb and just click that 'buy now with one click' button on Amazon. Amazon is clever with that little button... I read Breeder, the first book in this series, when it first came out and loved it. I then read Terran and oh wow, can I just say that? And this post kind of describes one of the reasons for it: Marlix is a vulnerable hero. He is this Alpha - and I mean Alpha - who sees nothing wrong in simply taking what he wants - literally picking up our heroine, tossing her over his shoulder and taking her home with him- absolutely not expecting what would come.

I won't write up my full review here but I highly recommend this book as well as Breeder. I don't believe it's necessary to read them in order but I loved them both. But first, here's Cara...

* * * *

Even Superman, the man of steel, had his kryptonite. For Marlix, one of only five rulers on his planet, it’s a pink-haired spitfire from Earth.

A touch of vulnerability takes a powerful, macho romance hero and makes him real, makes him relatable. This vulnerability can be a physical trait such as an old injury that hampers him, a past hurt, a soft spot for another person, or a character flaw that can be preyed upon by the villain.

Even courage can make a man vulnerable—by making him take risks that put him into harm’s way.
Terran, book two of the Breeder Sci-fi romance series, is set on a male-dominated, misogynistic alien planet. The hero’s belief in his primacy begin to erode when he falls in love with a Terran female and realizes that all is not as his culture has taught him. Athough Marlix is a fierce, powerful warrior and ruler, his position and his attitude have, to some degree, shielded him from reality. But his curiosity, bafflement with Terran ways, and even his sexism imbue him with an innocence that softens his dominance—and makes him vulnerable.

He inspected the vendoress’s chest again. Given the breast-baring construction of the beige shifts breeders wore, female mammary glands held few secrets. But the fact that this vendoress had hidden hers aroused his curiosity. Did she have round breasts or conical ones? Long, thick nipples or small ones?
“Hey, buddy. My eyes are up here!” She snapped her fingers in front of her face.
Marlix frowned in confusion. “I am aware of the location of your eyes. Besides your pink hair, I noticed them right away. Tell me, are all females on your planet similarly hued?”
“You don’t get out much, do you?” She planted her hands on her hips. The motion drew his attention to her mammary glands again.
“I am out now,” Marlix answered in all honesty but got the impression he’d annoyed her again when she tsked.
“I’ll get the rest of your order.” She stomped away, muttering something about a pig. She disappeared behind a curtained entrance.
“What is a pig?” Marlix consulted with Urazi.

Throughout the novel, Marlix is baffled by the things Tara does and says. He has no idea that Terran females expect to consulted before one makes a decision for them. But his intentions are good.
This Terran excerpt is from one of my favorite scenes:

Marlix extracted a thin blanket from his pack and spread it over the ground, then presented lunch—small slabs of meat held between two slices of panna. Sandwiches. A couple of pomes. And a clear flask of something that could be…beer? The big baboon had packed a picnic lunch.
Naked, Marlix sat cross-legged on the blanket and patted the ground. “Sit,” he said. “Are you hungry?”
Her insides melted into something gooey and soft. “Famished,” she said, not trusting herself to utter more than a single word. She armored herself by dressing first and then sat where he’d pointed. He handed her a sandwich and a flask.
“I had this the other night at an alerina. It is good. Try it.”
“Thank you,” she said, and took a sip. As she’d guessed. Beer. She eyed the food, the blanket, the beauty of the secluded beach, and then the man beside her. Her mouth dried. “This is almost like a date,” she joked.
“A date?” Marlix raised his eyebrows.
She sighed. Really, he should have attended more briefings. “In the olden days on Terra, when a man liked a woman in a romantic or sexual way or both, he asked her to go someplace with him so they could talk and learn about each other. Often they shared food together.”
“Oh.” He bit into his sandwich and chewed. After swallowing, he said, “This would be a date, then.”
She grabbed her flask and gulped down a mouthful of beer. In what galaxy did kidnapping equate with courtship?

What traits do you like to see in a male hero? Do you like a touch of vulnerability with dominance?

Terran Blurb
After fleeing heartache on Terra, Tara Diehl has adjusted to male-dominated Parseon better than most vendors until she is kidnapped by Alpha Marlix, a ruling commander. At first her tall, muscled abductor terrifies her, especially when he doesn’t hesitate to quell her struggle for freedom with some force. When her attempts to escape fail, she decides to seduce her way to freedom.
But out of seduction and subterfuge grow a true intimacy that cause Marlix and Tara to take action that drives Parseon to the brink of civil war, threatening not only their relationship, but also their lives.
Terran, the second book in the Breeder sci-fi series, is a “capture” romance involving a domineering but hunky alien, a female with a bad dye job and an even worse attitude, hot sex, and spanking.
